Late Season Bananas

I have had banana trees for many years, and have had bananas many times. But I have never had bananas this late in the season! These were waiting for me when I returned from vacation.

I had no idea you could get fruit from a banana tree in Delaware. I am really tempted to put a tree in my bog.

Yeah, mine were late this year too. You never know. By the way, nice garden!

I had one tree that had bananas on the first of July. It was wrapped at about 3 feet tall. This one was a "stump" that was mulched. I have never had them bear fruit this far apart.

Bananas (Musa spp.) aren't really trees, just big, herbaceous plants. In USDA Zones 9a and lower, the top will die back every winter and come up again in late Spring.
