More, or update on wire mesh raccoon deterrent?

I got hit by a or a family of raccoons again!
A search on the forum led me to this thread, by@Jetz1138
That is, the wire mesh with 1/2" squares system.

I wonder if there is an update or possible improvements?

I need to fix this before thinking of getting and safely adding few more goldfish, nothing very fancy.

BTW they sometimes grab the bird feeder when we forget to take it in (due to prior night attacks!) and it seems like they look for the fish afterwards, the main course...

I use electric wire fencing to deter them. If that doesn't work, then out comes the live trap and lead poisoning, but then i'm in the country and they kill my chickens which are investments I don't like losing. I've found it's very hard to deter them and we are not allowed to transport or relocate if caught.
