Didn't really know what I was doing, just dug a hole, bought a liner , filled it then researched plants!

It's a year old now, plants blooming, tadpoles almost there turned into frogs and I can honestly just go down and sit staring into it watching all the wee tadpoles, larvae, daphnia, snails and who knows what else

So satisfying knowing I created that whole wee ecosystem, I'm basically god/Jesus to everything in there, haha

No filter or pump and fingers crossed I've set it up properly so it doesn't need one

Next thing I do need though is a night vision camera!

Haha thanks, the ramshackle fence I think actually lends itself to the kinda storybook pond theme!

I'm building a deck and seating area down there just so I can sit and look at it - has an incredible calming effect

Everyone should have a water feature of some sort!

I love your nice natural looking pond! How many gallons is your pond? If you have any issues w/mosquito's you could even add a few minnows or some sort or goldfish if the pond is big enough.

Thank you :)
I'm OK with it looking a little overgrown, fence broken etc, I think it adds to the charm!

Interesting you say that, do you mean the larvae?

Are they what the little woodlouse looking things are that I am convinced are attacking my tadpoles and snails?

Would goldfish sort them out?

My only concern is the fact I have no pump or filter?

Yes the larvae is what they would eat and goldfish keep my pond free of the creatures.
Looks like this:

If you have fish then you will need a pump and filter perhaps. Not sure if you can get away w/o one or not. If you decide on goldfish, I love the Shubunkin type and their pretty patterns rather than just the plain old orange ones.

I have heard UK pond builders say mosquitos aren't really an issue there. I don't know why that is, but I'm envious!

Thanks all!

I love the idea of adding some freshwater shrimp

Will they eat/attack the tadpoles though?
