Hi all , when I bought my house a few years ago it came with an old above ground pond , its cone to the end off its life and is leaking terribly . In the next 2 weeks I'm gona start work on making a new one in a different location .

It will be stocked with approx 12 goldfish. I've ordered a 1800lt preformed pond and I will be sinking it in the ground , I've picked up an old kockney koi filter with no media , im gona remove the vortex chamber so that it fits in its desired location, so I will be left with approx a meter long 4 bay filter , which will be pump fed .

Here come all the questions, what kind off water turn over should I be aiming for into the filter , I currently have a 3500lh pump on the old pond , will this be sufficient or should I get a higher volume pump ? I plan on having a decorative water fall but will run this from a separate smaller pump so when its in use in the summer it will add extra circulation and help oxygenate as well as being decorative.

Question 2 , media , i have a load off brushes and k1 media with the old pond , the filter will have 4 bays , so I was thinking one bay brushes , one bay foam pads , 2 bays k1 .
But what foams are best and what porosity? , also the 2 k1 bays , static or fluidised ? , I now k1 generally is positioned at the end off the filter, but could I have my first chamber k1 fluidised taking advantage off the flow from the supply from the pond pump , then brushes , then foam , and lastly static k1 before returning to the pond .

Many thanks any help greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum.

I would go for a liner vs preform, they tend to be tough to settle right and shift over time.
You pump looks like it is double the water in you pond, so should be fine.

I don't do filters so can't help much there.

Hi thanks for the reply . Im not to concerned about the preformed installation, its just a simple round koi vat and I have a construction background so will give it a sub base to sit on . Is double the ponds volume usually the goal in terms off filter pump volume?
