I saw three unaccounted-for small fry in my 1,200 gal ponds here in Daytona Beach back in late June. They were guppy-sized charcoal-colored then and unidentifiable. Since then, however, they have grown considerably with the largest one now nearly three inches long and developing a block head with the same checkerboard black-and-white coloring as two of my year-old 5" koi, so that mystery seems solved.

Could it be a hybrid koi/goldfish? They are usually black or brown and look like that. However if there is indeed a spot or circle on it, I don't know.....maybe a sunfish.
