Good day,
Hello Guys,

A little help for deciding which water pump should i pick for my filter?.
My pond specs:
  • Pond length 8.3333 Feet
  • Pond width 4.58333 Feet
  • Pond Depth 3.33333 Feet
    Total of 954.85 Gallons
i got 2 Filters and the spec.:
  • Pond length 1.6666 Feet
  • Pond width 1.05333 Feet
  • Pond Depth 2.66667 Feet
    Total of 36.11 Gallons

i was planing to buy Rio 1100 from a local koi hobbyist but as i search for spec. on the net, i notice somethings not right if i will buy that Rio 1100 it pumps 236 G/Hr which would only take 3hrs + to suck dry my pond.
so now im lose on what pump should i get or should i make my filter more bigger and deeper?
or my pond? :( a little advice would do great for me :)

Your pond water should turn over at least once an hour .It depends on what kind of filters you have .My 1 filter for instance is a 60 gallon filter but it is filled with lava rock and i have 1 2900 gph laguna pump that fills it and extra water goes into the water fall and the other pump I have is a 960 gph pump and it goes into a 15 gallon tank with lava rock and extra just goes into the pond .Tank 1 in first pic ,tank 2 in second pic and ball valve in the pond for the extra water to help aerate the pond also lava rock in that one .Pump for smaller ponds should always be bigger .There are you tube video's that explain it better .Like my pond is around 3700 gallons or so and is around 4 ft deep and should really have a 4200 gph pump for my use with 2 filters and the wider waterfall .But i prefer 2 pumps this way if 1 goes out i have back up .You loose gph the more elbows on your hoses and the height of the head ,meaning the length of the hose out of the water to your filter .I still get confused by this part .I see gph pumps just like my laguna that say the head height is less than mine but it is 2900 gph and uses more watts of power .I just added yesterday a new sump pump hose to my 2900 gph .I went from a 1 1/4 hose to 1 1/2 hose and watts the pump for 1 1/4 hose used was 104 watts and now with the 1 1/2 inch hose it is now using only 95 watts and I still have the same amount of water coming out if not more .Laguna pumps hit a sweet spot for energy use and stay there unless you change something .Always happy lowering my energy cost bill .Plus 4 year warranty .Laguna has a you tube video also .Both my pumps are laguna and so far happy enough to buy a laguna aerator

I just bought a new pump for the pond I'm building and I went with a Laguna Max-Flo pump because it is so energy efficient. I literally am still waiting for it to arrive, so I can't comment on how it actually works... But after doing a lot of research before buying, Laguna is what I settled on. It seems to get great reviews on pond forums, saves electricity, and although they're not cheap, they're also not unreasonably priced.

I did a whole review on my 2 laguna pumps on this pond sight .It started at 106 watts changed the hose out and it went down to 103 watts and now went with a 1 1/2 inch sump pump hose with no restrictions and it hit it's sweet spot now a 95 watts and is 2900 gph . and 960 gph hit it's sweet spot at 20 watts and thinking when I change out that hose to bigger one it will lower also .Got mine in Feb.Have to take a pic again but have not had the time to do it
