Hello, I have a small pond with some big koi. The largest, all gold is over 30" about 10 years old. Thinking ahead about 4-5 years I will be moving and will not have a pond, so what to do with the fish? I have given numerous fish to the local supplier but I am looking for a great habitat. Does anyone know of a large pond I could donate to in the Long Island, NY area?

Thanks, Hubie van Meurs

Hi Hubie welcome to the forum from Plymouth in the UK , you may find giving koi away hard but stick with it are there any parks that you know of in your area that have koi in them ?
Why not try contcting an AKCA club in your area to see if anyone will take them off your hands , you have 4-5 years to ask around which is plenty of time :).

I've heard there are koi rescue groups in some states. Maybe google and see what you find. Also look for koi clubs in your area.

New York koi clubs
  • Genesse Valley Pond & Koi Society *
  • Koi & WG Society of Central New York *
  • Mid Atlantic Koi Club - NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, VA, WV *
  • Niagara Frontier Koi & Pond Club *
