Hi all,

I am new to ponds, but I am excited to give this a try. I have a basic idea of what I would like to do but I don't have all the details worked out yet. I took a few pictures of the area I want to make the pond ( It is currently a flower bed). I made a quick diagram in paint of the dimensions of the pond and was hoping someone could help me with the math as far as how many gallons this will be and what size liner I should get. I would like to dig down about 1.5 feet and have it stick up a foot above ground making it a 2.5ish foot deep pond. I'm not real interested in fish right now but might want to expand the pond later and make a deep end to accommodate some fish.

In the pictures below the pond will be basically the same shape as the red bricked section. What is the best way to build up walls for the pond to be partly above ground? I would assume dirt walls wouldn't be able to support it. Is a filtration system necessary for this? Do i need to have some kind of drainage for when it rains and the water level rises? Any comments or opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to our group

A foot above ground, you could use a dirt berm.
Without fish,no filtration is necessary, but you will be fighting mosquitoes, you might want to add minnows of some type to eat the bugs.

A low spot in the liner would allow it to drain any overflow from rain. Make sure the water drains away from the pond.

around 1398 gallons.

The liner would need to be around 19x19 feet.
