We would have to get her off the plane first.
I think she would take one look out the window and scream to turn the plane around!

    Literally.
My nose would run and freeze into an icicle that would fall, cutting an artery and I would bleed to death in a gruesome noseicle episode.
    I just know it.

Some years the marsh merigold can die back to nothing. Should come back next year...

This is a picture of the street we live on. It's a dead end street that we live at the end of.
    The snowplow came yesterday.

Ha, except it's Christmas time and my truck won't fit into any parking spaces.
I decided on my trip out shopping yesterday that I would forego typical presents and instead do some home cooking/baking for everyone this year....much to my wife's chagrin...
So we went shopping at the grocery store.

You need a little go in the snow Subaru. Fun to drive in the snow if none of the idiot drivers are around you :D

We had one, until a mechanic killed it. My hubby got it off craigs list, ran great, then got messed up by a shop fixing it, dead now.

As the ice is disappearing this spring, I'm seeing a lot of dead goldfish. The minnows seem to be the only survivors.
I'm pretty sure that all the large fish died this year from lack of O2.

I believe the reason was that the intakes of the pond breathers became clogged with a school of baby minnows:

    IMG_7405.jpg

Because the breathers are not serviceable unless the ice melts back enough to lift the breathers out of the water, and I intend to keep minnows in the future, I'm going to have to come up with another method for aerating my pond during the winter.
I've tried a 1500 watt heater and that ices over completely so that's no good, I've tried a submerged pump before but I can see that intake getting clogged as well, so I'm going to look into an air compressor and a couple of air diffusers for next winter.
Perhaps a 1/3 H compressor such as this one:

So one weakness with these pond breathers is that they don't do well with small fry, and minnows seem to reproduce in fairly cold water.
    That's too bad.

I put a small pump in a home depot bucket, with a ton of holes drilled in it. The pump intake is buried in a bunch of that course matala mat. It is always grungy in the spring, but keeps running. I don't deal with the minnows like you do.
Might work for you. The pump is 240 gph with all the holes the draw is very slight.

Maybe you can put more filtering around the pond breather pump, put it in a bucket with matala mats.

Sorry about your dead fish. :(

Hi Mitch sad start to the ponding this year. I thought the pondbreathers were not reliable for our winters as I mentioned in the past. When I over wintered I used an aerator with a fine diffuser. Forgot what model but it works great for our winters and supports large ponds. I'll find it for you.

Sorry to hear about your goldfish Mitch. I wonder if you could adapt a large filter to that breather then it would last longer, like the barrel style under water filters I use?

You could always just run a EZ bio filters to pump and run good size pump on front of lower watt heater. Try my method....

A guy here used that aerator, all his fish died. He had a decent sized pond.
