I'm not sure this is the correct forum to help. My family purchased acreage outside of Tyler about 3yrs ago, It had a pond. It is covered in algae and lilies. We've not been able to clear or clean it up. No one seems to have a plan to fix it. I was hoping to get some information or help? Ideas???

How big is your pond? Does the water circulate through a pump?

Tyler, as in Tyler, TX? Is it a natural pond (with a dirt bottom) or a lined pond (with a liner in it to contain the water)? And, how big is it? Are there any fish?

Yes. its a natural pond. No liner. We have a pump but haven't really used it lately because it wasn't doing anything, Its about 300ft across.

The addition of an appropriately sized aerator/diffuser will go a long way in eliminating the excess algae. What is the deepest area of the pond?

I believe its right in the center. The previous owners placed a rod there. Its not very deep. Depending on rainfall maybe 6ft. My brother built a fork and we dredged a big part of it in the spring but it didn't put a dent in it. Then he added the aerator and it didn't touch it. They just grew back and then the pond turned dark brown.

What type of aerator did you use? How long was it in operation?
Also, when you dredged the pond did you remove the accumulated muck or just the larger debris?

Needs a bigger expensive aerator for lakes and takes time to work like said It does not happen in a couple of weeks .It may take months to get the pond back after neglect
