Can any identify the problem with this small Koi. It’s seems healthy enough swims around and feeds the same as th other Koi in the pond. The water quality is very good. The lump has been there for a few years but this year it looks a little different. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello and wedlome!

I guess I’ll start with my standard answer….it looks like carp pox….but that’s just an observation.

Another couple of observations:
  • What are the actual number results for your water tests?
  • how big is your pond?
  • hard to say for sure, but that fish looks like it’s showing signs of dropsy — large body shape and pine cone scales

Is that a koi? Looks more like a goldfish due to the shape, but I can't see the head.

I have a goldfish that has lumps that look like that. It has been like that for years.

Sorry, I have no clue what causes it or if there's any remedy.

All the numbers are fine. Oh levels are good nitrates are within limits. All the fish are feeding and behaving as normal. The fish in question is around 8 years old. The lump on is Mrs side doesn’t seem to bother fish. It’s just unsightly. The fish are not flashing. The pond is around 12’ x 8’ x 3’ deep. I have a pressurised filtration system a waterfall and two air stones.

I was told it was a Koi when I bought it years ago.

So, to help you confirm if it's a koi....

If it's a koi, it will have the barbells sticking out on either side of the mouth. No barbells, not a koi. Goldfish do not have the barbells.
I think the koi mouth is wider and tends to aim downward to forage in the mud.

Koi also grow much larger than goldfish.

Just trying to help out.
It kind of looked like a goldfish from behind. It's hard to tell from the pictures.
