I don't wait over an hour either. You might be better off gluing a short section of pipe and then connecting it to the main pipe with a Fernco or glue a coupling on. Those valves are expensive as you know and after 3 valves you don't want to buy another one.

So I went to Lowes' today and they just happened to have two of the valves where someone had unscrewed part of them. I asked an associate and they let me buy them for $3 each so I can replace my leaking ones on the cheap now. =)

Make sure you give both surfaces a good application of primer.
The same with the glue.
When you fit them together after applying the glue, do it fast and give it a quick twist to ensure the glue has been evenly distributed and embedded.

One last must do especially with larger pvc fittings is to keep some pressure on the Joint for a minute until the joint sets . And you need to let the primer dry Before you start to glue
