@addy1 are your goldfish big like koi or is the photo deceiving me?

The biggest is around 8 inches or so, The orange one in the stock tank is around 10 inches.

Silicone works fine that is what the Little Giant skimmer that I bought came with. As far as the missing ring a thick piece of plexiglass should work. All you are doing is sealing the liner between the ring and the skimmer.
