Reeds overtaking the pond

Hello,

We have about 1000ltr pond with goldfish and plenty of plants. We have to fight to keep algae under control as we have no filter but so far it has been ok. Now however the few reeds we had have exploded and dominate the pond.

My question is - is this ok? I presume they will help add oxygen to the water and they provide plenty of shade. But how much is too much of a good thing? Should I cut them back a bit?

Here are some pics. For reference, I would say they are about 5ft in height.

I think too many plants as I would want to see more of the fish. Can you add a filter or a bog attached to the pond?

WAAAAY too many plants. Here's the mistake people make about plants - YES they put off oxygen during the day, but at night they reverse the process and take IN oxygen. Also a plant like reeds isn't putting oxygen into the water - the oxygen is being released into the air so it's not adding oxygen to your pond.

All those roots - are your fish able to even swim? I'd remove 90% of that growth so you can actually see water. That growth won't stop - those reeds will continue to fill that pond until there IS no pond.

I'd remove 75 percent of those plants today go buy some night lillies that grow slow and are breathtaking. once those get going then rip out the rest of the 5 foot tall reeds. nightlillies only grow to a foot tall at max maybe a pitcher plant for color

Actually i would rebuild that's too small for just about anything
