Securing Pond Liner in a Garden Box

Hello!
First, thank you for your time. I’m new to garden ponds, and would like to know the best way to secure a pond liner in a small garden box. I know I need to have a decent amount of pond liner outside of the pond to be secured with rocks and such. I’ve seen for larger ponds, two feet of overlap is ideal. I don’t have that option, unless I’d like my pond to be six inches long by six inches wide. Would it be the worst idea to nail one piece of overlap per side (four nails) to the wood frame of my garden box? Then, perhaps use a pond sealant around the nail to help prevent tearing?
Thanks!
Dan

Welcome to our forum!

My deck ponds, I used wide head nails, like roofing nails, and just nailed the liner to the deck pond wood edge. Been many years and still holding fine. No sealant no tearing we do freeze here.

Now I did not say where I nailed, I nailed on top of the pond edge wood not down in the water, needless to say!

I would wait several months before nailing the liner to allow it to fully settle. I nailed my liner in my bog (wood framed) a week after filling it and the weight of the water and gravel caused it to settle and tore holes.

I nailed mine right away, but I also left extra liner sort of in folds.

Welcome @drhauser ! @mrsclem and @addy1 both make a good point - don't stretch the liner tight and then nail (or even secure with rocks). Give it some slack so it can settle a bit!

Post some pictures as you build - we love to see what others come up with!

Hello,

Thank you all for your responses and insights. I'm about 75% done. I have to gussy it up a bit, and perhaps expand the "land" areas.
My question is, does anyone have any ideas for hiding the filter and spillway? I was thinking about putting a brick frame around it with a removal top. Not sure what I would put on top, but perhaps a rock or like a little pitched roof so it looks like a wishing well.

Hi everyone, I am in the process of building my first pond. I've gone for 65 cm deep, to keep goldfish. Is that enough?

@Kash Hello and welcome!
