Where'd she go?
Jw? She is down south hanging out in Yuma AZ right now going to Nevada next, Calif.
Of course they are having a heat wave down there, hitting 90 constantly.

Sissy? She takes time off this time of year, If I remember right she goes prospecting for stuff with a friend etc.

Sitting by the pool again typing, it's a rough life when one is retired :sneaky:

Warm yesterday and cold today.....makes it hard to work on my pond. Looking forward to finishing up the new filter and getting it running!

Good luck with the rebuild . Thanks again for your input at my rebuild thread.
From reading your threads I know you are a big proponent of lava rock. I also incorporate it as part of the bio filtration in a 100 gal stock tank. When I initially added ithe lava rock i placed it in a laundry bag and plopped the bag in the tank. I noticed it would get mucked up so I placed the bag with the lava rock into a plastic laundry basket lined with quilt batting. So now the quilt batting gets mucked up and the lava rock stays clean. Spring through summer i change the quilt batter every 2 weeks. Late fall thru winter as needed . To keep it somehow aerated I added 3 INCH PVC pipe with 1/4 inc holes to the inlet of the stock tank. The laundry basket ( with added holes in the bottom ) sits on top of the 3 inch PVC PIPE. . What's. fascinating is all the ctitters in the plastic laundry basket.

lava rock needs to get mucked up as that is where the good bacteria lives .I just put mine in laundry baskets and if it gets real bad a dunk it in a 5 gallon bucket and then put it back in the filter .

It seems like people who don't think lava rock is a good bio media emphasize the pores getting clogged up therefore limiting the surface area available for the benificial bacteria to grow. It seems there has been a move away from static bio media for fluidized media with the therory being the constant movement and collisions keeps the bio media clean. This is also true in the aquarium world. That is why I thought to cover the lava rocks with the quilt batting. Initially I was doing as you mentioned with dunking the lava rocks in a 5 gal bucket of pond water.
This is what makes this hobby both interesting and challenging. There seems to be many ways to achieve the same results.
