It's been a while, but here are some updates. Sure enough, it's more like 12 that we have counted. Some still hide. These ones captured has left the caves and found a bigger hiding spot, but come out to swim with the crowd at feeding. So Cool!

Nice. You probably have even more than that. Already color and patterns emerging. I probably have 40 in my main pond that survived and some much nicer that are in the fry pond. They are also bigger, anywhere from 1 1/2 inch to 4 inches. The biggest in fry pond are 1 1/2 inches. I gave all the tobbies to a friend that lost all his koi this spring.

Thanks. I will need to rehome some, for sure. I really don't know how to tell a good fry from a bad one. What does the color and pattern this early on mean? Oh and what's a tobbie?

Tobies are the bigger fry that eat their smaller siblings.

If they are in a big pond spread out, it's not such a big deal. But if you are raising hundreds of fry in one contained area they will eat each other.

Learn something new everyday. It's a good thing.

I let them get as big as possible before I decide which ones I don't want. Then Its a matter to whats pleasing to your eyes.

Another Update.

Here are some pics I took this morning. Best I could get with my camera and the glare. Everyone seems to have survived the medication treatment. There are a couple that I haven't seen in a few weeks, but they could still be hiding or the frogs, snakes got to them.

Any comments on how the colored ones may turn out as they grow?

Thanks

ps In the second photo ( #10) does the white fish look bloated or am I just nervous?

Fry are very good at staying alive in the pond, yes large koi can eat them but if they get to between 1 to 2 inches then they have made it.

Happy Birthday To My Little Survivors! Hey and I got a cupcake too. :)All bunkered down nicely over the winter; although one swims a bit funny. I think some will have to go though, I just can't decide. Let me know what you think of them. Other than pond mutts. ;) Went photo crazy again.

We had a double spawn two days ago and I took a few photos with what I think are eyes and mouths in the eggs. I'll start a new post just for fun.

Thanks Everyone

Still out of town, but almost home. Hubby tells me he saw a baby fish in the pond today - gasp! I know I had a big spawning, but figured the koi ate all the eggs....guess there is a survivor....about one inch long.

Drats, I've longed for a platinum koi and would need to rehome one of my five to have one. guess I'll leave this little one in the pad till next year, to see how it develops....then think about what I'll do.
