I'm planning out an urban 1/4 acre food forest lot in the PNW. I'm hoping to include a pond to help capture and store water, grow aquatic plants, and to provide a home for amphibious wildlife. Given that I don't have too many resources to make this happen, I'm hoping to get the biggest bang for my buck and thus am here to learn from this community.

Hello and welcome!

So, it sounds like you are talking about a natural, wildlife pond. Have you explored your local resources such as Wildlife and Fisheries, or any other local agencies/authorities for advice or guidance? I have no idea how Canada is set up with regards to this. There might be specific guidelines or laws that you would be required to follow. Maybe our other Canadians on here can chime in.

When you say that you “don’t have too many resources to make this happen,” does that mean financial and/or the physical ability to dig and provide the water? Or are you talking about knowledge (as in what is involved with creating a pond)? It might help us if we knew more about any plans or ideas you have already come up with.

It sounds like a wonderful idea, and we would love to be able to follow you on your journey!

I know I’d love to do similar things. I want the fruit salad tree, it’s grafted to have peach, plum, apricot, cherry, apricot, all on one tree. They’ve done the same thing for apple and pear trees, so you have multiple varieties all on one tree. The one meat source I want to raise is rabbits, but I want to add gunnies for pest control, but that’s on pause due to a weasel in the area, and lack of funds/ strong bodies to build a new better weasel proof coop.
