Vacuum Wand with shop vac

I've tried to make a wand to go with my shop vac using a pole with a garden hose attached but that hasn't worked. How have others rigged up a wand to a shop vac to use in a pond?

I have a large shop vac with a few extra extentions
I have in the past made a pole out of pvc pipe ,and put a tee at the end of it,put some short stubs of pipe in the tee ,and put caps on the stubs,,then i took a grinder and cut a slot opening on the bottom..
for the hose try a pool hose......if you use a big enough pipe you can adapt your shop vac attachments
