I love beef barley soup, should make some soon. English Journal of Medicine reports that the fat on the beef is VERY good for heart as it contains large amounts of searic acid.
Cora Hanson was Canada oldest living woman two years ago, and she lived to 113 years old. She lived on ranch in Cypress Hills Alberta till she was 99 years old. They were "Cattlemen Ranchers" and I am sure there was no shortage of beef tallow (fat) in her house.... she probably ate lots of barely too!

Well company is complaining about the state of VA and me .They said the fresh air and my cooking must be it .They feel healthier than ever .There blood pressure is down (they have been using blood pressure wrist cuff )The Omron one which is accurate and suggested by hubbies heart doctor .I guess the stress of selling that house in NJ helped a lot .The monthly bills alone ate up there monthly checks .They went to DMV yesterday got new plates and got insurance on both vehicles and they went to my insurance broker and for 800 dollars a year full coverage and towing they are finished with that (both SUV's are 2012 ).They had to give my address for now .Almost 3 thousand dollars in NJ for both vehicles .Eggplant parm.(secret ingredient Barley :)) .Making meatballs and sausage and fresh garlic bread . Tammys momma brought over more veggies from her greenhouse .She is such a sweetheart .Yeh but remember Colleen now they shoot these cows full of bad stuff to make them grow faster and bigger .We are way to over populated and farmers are not able to keep up .Plus during the housing boom farms were bought up and houses went up and then we are loosing so many of the older farmers .It is a lot of work and there are a lot of young people that prefer cell phones and gaming than working hard with there hands .I know how hard it is just to farm a small 5 acre farm .

Enjoying my sunshine again and need to get off butt now and go out and suck it up!
I love barley and hubby hates it. Someone gave us some venison burger we will try tonight. I must tell myself it is food and not Bambi :)

Yes, I try and get just the free range beef that is organic and hormone free. The trouble is now everybody else wants that beef too so now it is hard to get and shelf is empty lots. I did get some nice rib steaks from Superstore, President Choice Free From beef (free of bad crap) and froze them for hubby so when he gets home Friday I can feed him a good meal. I am scared to eat the other beef That is not organic in nature. All beef has really gone up big time here on Canada. For the two very thin cut rib steaks, I paid almost 25 dollars! So I will cook them very carefully! !

We have sandy river meats here in Axton and they own there own farm and every one of there meats are from there farm .They have beef and pork and chicken and even duck meat .They are cheaper than the grocery store and there shop is on there farm about 3 miles from my house .Great to live in good old country setting .Hamburger I get from them is 80 percent lean and is a 1.99 a pound .Hubby does not like the 90 percent lean he said it needs some fat for taste .He loves there roasts and bacon .They sell eggs and all kinds of cheeses and there pies and cakes are fantastic and there home made ice cream is just heavenly .They sell butter but that is not in hubbies diet .He does not like sweet cream butter .They do make a alternative he loves .They also carry honey

I went to a foreclosed house my friends looked at and realtor said I could take the pond and rocks out she would pay me .It was a nasty leaky plastic one that was in sad shape so went to the dump with it but gosh did I get some great flat rocks .I took a shovel and filled in the hole for her also and made it look better .And the rocks are worth a lot more to me .Oh happy rock day

Near freezing here today. Chance of freezing rain tonight. 37 tomorrow...but then the bottom drops out tomorrow night and we won't be above freezing again for about a week. Yuck. (And to add to my aggravation, we are under a boil order here until Saturday morning due to a water main break last night... Time to go find a store in the neighborhood that isn't sold out of drinking water. :/)

Beautiful sunny day today, even though a bit breezy. Winds tonight were out of the ESE, so that usually means moisture and bad weather, but nothing supposed to hit here until Sat. night and into Sunday. Temps dropping to 10 on Sunday night, so here comes winter again. My hyacinths have been up through the mulch for over a month. I think around here they go dormant in early summer, then the cold hits and they do their cold dormant thing, but once the weather warms up the surface, they tend to sprout and grow a bit. It never seems to have bothered them with blooming eventually, though. Sometimes they get frost bit, but they seem to always bloom! I have a Patio Peach I'm hoping will bloom this spring. First year trying a peach. Tried 2 pink and then a white Dogwood in the same spot, each one of them died. So, trying something new. It's a small tree, and had peaches on it last year when I bought it. I just hope we get winter and get the cold done and over with by the end of February. Then, bring on the Spring!

My brother is coming this weekend, and with several of you saying what you were making for meals, I decided to make pork roast and homemade chicken noodle soup! Only thing I need is carrots and other veges for the soup. Love to cook for him, and he sure enjoys a home cooked meal, too. :) My brothers (2) and sisters (3) and all of their spouses (3 more) and I are going on a cruise end of February. I'm in charge of making sure our older brother has the appropriate clothing, and that it's CLEAN and not smelling like his house. So, he is to bring all of his dress up clothes and shorts and swimming trunks, etc. here so I can wash it or have it dry cleaned between now and the end of Feb.

Oh man, the township is digging up the ground on the street behind us again. I hope they don't shut the water off two nights in a row.
