Looking better now it is nearly full http://s604.photobucket.com/user/beekeeper_hornet/media/IMG_8645r.jpg.html

The temperature is fairly steady 9°C min/ 11°C max. compared with the aquarium which is a fairly constant 19/20°C.

It has only been up a couple of days but the local wildlife has started to move in already. A pond skater, but the little fella wouldn't keep still for a photo. http://s604.photobucket.com/user/beekeeper_hornet/media/IMG_8647r.jpg.html

I have changed the outside socket for a new double RCD unit. Currently installing the cabling for the pump and UV filter but I shouldn't think anyone will be interested in pictures of that.

best thing for any liner is to lay it in the warm sun for awhile as it makes it more supple and easier to fit in

True! But if your goal is wrinkle and crease free, you'll be at it a long time! A few wrinkles are fine! And a square pond is probably the hardest of all - you did great!

Looks good, I did something similar last year. Can't wait to see what it looks like with fish in it.

I've recently started renovating an old in ground cement pond I found in my yard buried under dirt rocks weeds melon patch etc. it was a heart shaped pond but after 2 winters kept cracking and leaking so I decided to rebuild it, it's 2' deep currently and I'm going to build it up with 4x4 timbers another 2' for a total of 48". I plan to dig out the dirt portion and add a four inch bottom drain which will gravity feed into a 55gallon drum which will be used for a settlement tank. Water will then be pumped into 8'x3'x12-15" deep bog which will stream/waterfall 3-4' back into main Koi pond. Pond will be pentagon shaped with average width being 11' across....

Thanks for the nice comments, I did wonder if there was anyone reading it.

I have to be honest, that was mainly down to my wife, she is also good at wrapping parcels and Birthday presents etc. :)

Progress has been a little slow this week due to April showers and other commitments. The pond temp is still only 12 +/- 2°C so there's no real rush.

I rip cut some 4x2 timber down to 1x2 to make a 1" (25mm) spacer between the pond and the capping. The picture should make it a bit clearer http://s604.photobucket.com/user/beekeeper_hornet/media/IMG_8652r.jpg.html

The corners will be half-lapped and the spacer will have notches cut in for the plumbing. I wish now that I had investigated bulkhead fitment more as that would have been a lot neater. The aim for today is to get the spacers and plumbing fitted and to trim the liner...

Got the capping fitted this weekend. I was intending to use smooth decking but apparently all the modern stuff is ridged on both sides so ended up getting 2" x 6" it looks ok anyway.

I need to finish tidying the plumbing http://s604.photobucket.com/user/beekeeper_hornet/media/IMG_8726r.jpg.html and fit some shelves for the marginals to sit on. I could do with some suggestions on that...

The pond skater has been coming and going but now seems to have taken up permanent residence.http://s604.photobucket.com/user/beekeeper_hornet/media/IMG_8701.jpg.html

The water is still too cold for the fish...

That looks great! Is that a shelf on the inside edge for the plants? What did you use for that?

Thanks Andrew! Those plants are suspended by cable ties (zip ties) acting like straps with the ends sandwiched under the capping. I'm thinking of making an L shaped shelf, possibly suspended by cable ties or that plastic parcel strapping but not sure of the best material to make it out of.

Ingenious. I have a similar design and haven't been able to figure out how to introduce plants that can't just be placed 2.5 feet deep on the bottom (like water lilies) or floaters. I wanted to add a suspended shelf a few inches below the surface but figured a piece of wood would just rot.
