I know it's a tough question, but I am curious. Why would you QT one group of apparently healthy fish, while ignoring another group of presumably healthy fish?
I could certainly understand why you might QT fish from an unknown source, but in this case, where both fish are known and appear healthy, isn't the risk just as great for the introduced fish a it is for the fish they are being introduced to?

That was my thought also. He has had the fish for years and they seem helthy so it wasent like I am going to pick up fish from a pet store or wholesaler that I dont know the history of the fish. But I guess that its better to stay on the side of caution because I have spent alot of time and money building my collection. I would hate to get whiped out because I was doing somone a favor. Its not like his fish are show quality grand champs just your average pond quality fish (nothing wrong with that, I just try to buy higher quality tosa).

It is totaly up to you but dont say we havent warned you , just because you know this person doesnt mean your not going to intoduce something into your pond, weve seen it before when one persons pond has caused major problems in anothers pond because QTing of the koi was not thought to be needed .
That person went on to loose six of his own fish thanx to not QT ing first.
Only the other year we ourselves had a koi that had gone through two QT's and the next thing we knew was that we had an outbreak of Ich something weve not seen in over 27 years but that the slide came up with under the microscope after we did a scrape and this was a dealership we knew, the koi came from a picking competition where you select a fish and grow them on where people then vote on as to how its developed
Thankfully we recognised an old foe and it was quickly irradicated but be my guest you take the risk if you want to but please be quick of the mark if it goes wrong for you ?

No I didnt want to risk it. They are in my friends pond and will winter there until spring when I will prob get a pool like koiguy sugested and QT them. Its not worth the risk of my collection as a favor. My friend actually likes them in his pond and I might just let him keep them. He was never a koi guy but I think that I migh have converted him lol. Thanks for all the advise and replys everyone.

This week I have had two people call me to take Koi they no longer wanted or could not keep. Both times I had to say no and both times it was really hard. Might I suggest if you have a good Pond store near you it would probably be better to give the fish to them as really good stores have quarantine tanks. If they end up selling the fish so be it! They won't make as much money on those fish as the cost to replace what you have would be. Often with me it is emotional value more than what I paid for them. Turns out fish are like Horses in that people are always calling me to rescue a horse. Time and Money have taught me to refer them to the closes GOOD Rescue group in my area. Good luck with whatever you decide.
