I know how nasty it gets my neighbors pond that's the top picture the liner slid down so we had to move all the rock and stretch the liner then put the rock back and it was gross on the bottom. But I thought it would b better to have the liner covered? Or no?

If you are worried about the sun harming the bottom of your liner................don't

I just wasn't sure if the sun would eat it. I was also looking in one of my pond books and every pond with fish has rock and gravel at the bottom the book is from 2002 so Idk if things have changed since then but they just look so natural with rock on the bottom

Sun won't eat it, water protects it. If you left it drained, dry and uncovered in the hot sun that might be a different story.
Rocks all look good in the bottom of the ponds when first put in when water is nice and clear and no gunk build up but you give it a bit of time and oh ma ma, sludge city and hold your nose w/ a clothespin

Yes I made the mistake of putting gravel in my bathtub pond and soon I was shoveling it out. It has a bare bottom now

That's really a neat idea. I guess having a shallow pond does have it's benefits
