Okay, here we go. I have a pond that is in the full sun. It wasn't like that until a tree died and we had to cut it down. Having algae problems all year. Here is My equipment:

1 Tetra pf1
1 Tetra dh3500 (pump)
1 Pondmaster 1000
1 Sunterra 3000 gal pressurized filter w uv light
1 Tetra 9w uv light
1 Sunterra 750 gph pump

My waterfall bulkhead also has filtration in it too. Both a filter and bio. Why do I still have algae? Any ideas? I have dealt with this for the last two years!!! The pic, which I hope shows up, was 2 weeks after a total drain and fill because I couldn't see the fish.

plant your plants in pea gravel( this allows direct nutrient draw from water) and add as may floaters as you can...a bio filters final product is nitrates filters wont get rid of nitrates. but plants use nitrates. algea is a plant and uses the same nitrates for food as any other plant... plants will out compete the alge for food and control it... your u.v bulbs may need replacement also. altho its a bit late in the season to worry about it this year. at least here!!

Shade and water change help a great deal. I have 50% shade and sun with weekly water change = no algae for me. RDK

its true shade is a great contributing factor...thats why floating plants are great and potted plants like lillies go bare rooted they provide the shade and use the nutrients without detracting from a ponds "natural " look. i would put a shade sail over a raised, semi raised, or formal pond, but they only detract from a natural look ponds beauty. i maintain beautifully clear water in a 10 hour a day full sun pond.
NOW THATS JUST MY OPINION

Hopefully this isn't too big. Also, forgive my skills with paint :(

This is why I am having issues. All the specs seem to be ok here. I know my uv filter is installed backwards. Been a bad pond year, haven't got around to fixing it!!

It's true that a shade sail detracts from the natural look so do building natural look ponds up against houses, garages and fences.
I did put up a shade sail to counter Tennessee's blazing hot sun and it lowered my temps by 10+ degrees also lowered algae problems.

Whatever works. No maintenance or electrical costs there.

What works is what makes for a healthier pond first and foremost and that's 78-80 degree rather than 90 degree water. form should should always follow function and sometimes the form may be slightly distracting.

no need to defend your decision to use a shade sail...its just not for me!! theres no swtructures trees or anything around my pond so it would just stasnd out and look bad in my situation....and i'm considerably north of you.
i wasnt being arguementative!!
