I spoke to my husband about all that's written on this thread, he's still convinced there's got to be a way to add a bog behind the waterfall, so, I will be starting a new thread to save this one from derailing

I had pea gravel in them and some were just filled with a course foam similar to matala. Mine were fed with a spray bar from above and flowed out thru the bottom drainage holes.

That's a cool idea!
Thanks for the pic, I didn't know Cannas can be used in a bog...I'm so excited I can't wait!

If your still a little short on your filtration you could give this a try. The ohio fish rescue has a indoor pool and had absolutely no where to add a bog so what they did was to set up a bog i forget if they did aqua blocks or if they did the pvs pipe and pea stone but . the point is in your upper pond could you make a foot deep bog at the bottom place your 2" pvc and then add a foot of pea stone? along the sides id make sure that the water is coming up from the bottom just as bogs do keep your lilly and watch them explode

If you really want to get creative this is an option i would do to make the bog area larger and also to make the are more natural and alive looking even if you chose only one plant type in this are your choice could real set the area off and look real realty cool even if you can't get a foot deep i would be very willing to bet the far even if you only had 6 or 8 inches , again depending on the plant type say even creeping jenny the whole wall would go yellow all the while filtering the heck out of your pond
