Hello everyone.

I have a backyard pond that had an external leeson pool motor attached the back of it. The motor has been broken since we got the house but I was wondering what a good alternative motor would be. The pipes are 2.5 inches and the motor will be above the water line. Does anyone have an recommendations on how to replace the pump and filter with something more economical and would fit better?
Let me know!

To save a lot of aggravation i would see if a replacement is available from the same manufacturer. Trying to replace the motor only and get lucky enough to have size fitment and bolt alignment all match up is highly unlikely.

Plus you are losing a TON of head pressure with all those 90 degree elbows 4 in that one picture alone It would almost pay for its self in wasted energy to push water through those 90's as it would to re due it all and use nothing sharper then a 45 elbow or at MAX street 90's . the difference is a hard shaped L Compared to the top or bottom of an S

Thank you for your response. Does it make sense to use a different pump/filter setup all together and redo the pipes? It seems like a lot for a small pond. Anything you recommend for an external pump?

Before you invest a nickle have you filled it with water and marked the level and see if it stays at that level for two days min?

If it holds then you will want to run a temporary pump to the water fall and see if you loose water. again mark the water level.

Can't tell by your photo how big the pond is but it does look like the home owner built it .

It may be a heck of a lot easier to buy an external pump say 3,000 gph and run a new hose . again hard saying not knowing the whole set up.

Yeah we had a ton of rain and it stayed the same level. Could I use the same pipes and run a smaller tube through them? The feed for the pump is at the bottom of the pond. The waterfall portion may have an issue correct?

Its very easy to do pvc repairs go to you tube and watch a bunch of the videos. the only tricky part will be the last joint in your case i would cut out the elbows and the piece between them and get your 22.5 45 or even street 90's and do a dry fit put it all together put a mark on each piece marking it's orientation so when they are glued you know how it goes together. Most ponds when thy have a leak it is at the waterfall
