I'm doing the same every 24 hours. But I want the prefilter foam to catch stuff before it is passed through the pump impellers. I found myself dissassembling the pump every few days to clear the impeller otherwise.
It all depends on how much stuff you have in solution and the amount of string algae you might still have. Most of it is gone in my case.
I should mention this pump is circulating water through my new Nursery pond, so I want the water as pristine as possible.
It may be normal with the foam..
mine have 1/8 to 1/4 "openings and other than a few leaves being caught on the cage every thing goes to the filter...dont remember the last time i cleaned it
I have an 1100 gph pondmaster pump with the foam filter. I used to clean it everyday then i decided to take it off and just leave the plastic cage on the pump.
