I made a ring for plants using a florists ring - an EGRET came down and, presumably, tried to land on the ring and fell in but stabbed a fish on the way - left many large white feathers and it visited again, so know that was the bird - I do not use rings anymore - the bird thought it was a landing place

One reason I have a wide weave fisherman's strong net over my whole pond! Birds can't get in except little ones that like to bath. What stops the birds from getting your fish by just standing on the sides and waiting for an opportune moment?

I used fiberglass screen door from Lowe's for the netting. I cut a big round circle, then cut a big long strip for the sides. Sewed that to the circle for the bottom using fishing line and a needle w/a big eye. Then used irrigation tubing that I had on hand for the floating ring. Think you can buy that at the hardware store also. I then folded the screen over that and sewed it w/more fishing line, wrapping the line over the hoop as I went. I connected the cut ends of the tubing w/a plastic connector I had on hand but you can take a cut piece of the tubing to the hardware store to match the size so it will fit on the ends of the cut tubing so no water can get in. The bigger the tubing you buy the better the ring will float. I wished I would have used larger tubing as my goldfish would jump over the rim and get in there and lay eggs and mess w/the plants and then they and the babies could not get out! Hope this helps and anymore question just ask.
