We've had 3 bullfrogs in our small backyard pond for 5 years, since they were tadpoles. This morning this one was dead with her tongue hugely swollen and protruding out of her mouth. She was fine yesterday. We are heartbroken. Can anyone suggest what might have happened?

I'm so sorry, what a handsome frog! I tend to agree with @addy1 , snacked on something that promoted an allergic response.

A five year life-span is a little short. How do the other frogs look? Any changes in their appearance or behavior? Have there been any changes in the pond?

Hi and thanks for the great questions. The other frogs are acting normally. The male has always bee reclusive and still is. The girls were always together, so I was afraid the remaining girl would be off her food or something, but she seems the same. The fish are all the same. The pond is the same. I just can't get over it. I know the girls would leave the pond at night and go hunting in the yard. Maybe she ate a black widow or something?
