I’ll my gold fish have died in my garden fish pond and I’m trying to figure out why. I’ve done nothing different and I’m wondering if it’s the cicadas. Anyone have any knowledge or the same experience?

Oh I'm so sorry! That's always sad.

Can you tell us more about your pond? How old is it? How big? What kind of filtration? How many fish? All goldfish? Are you inundated with the cicadas? Like lots of dead ones in the pond?

You have a lot of plants ! Maybe too many? The surface seems to be completely covered and am wondering if O2 levels are down.

I don't think a few dozen dead cicadas would kill the fish, so I would rule that out.

Is that a current picture of your pond? If so, I agree with others - you may have too many plants and not enough open surface area for gas exchange. If the largest fish die and the smallest survive, oxygen deprivation is always the first guess. The frogs are able to get in and out of the pond, so they wouldn't be affected like fish would.
