Maria, what's the update on your pond? Have you got it all set up again?

thanks for asking

I let it dry out for a week (although it did rain several of those days) then on this past Saturday I emptied out whatever rain water ended up in the bottom and refilled the pond with fresh water. Since my filter media in the matala bio steps filter is so expensive (and it was in like new shape) I decided to rinse it well and let it dry out and then re use it ( I hope that wasn't a mistake)

I checked the pond temperature on Sunday and it was 70 degrees and all looked well so I decided to add the trapdoor snails back to the pond (I had them in a rubbermaid bin since draining the pond) I still have to pull some matured media from my aquariums and add it to the pond filter) I'm hoping to put fish back in soon :)

@bettasngoldfish Maria, as you know, I am currently researching fish parasites, but there are others on here with vastly more experience and knowledge than I have [or ever will have]. Of course, we're still not sure what happened with your pond, so it's all speculation, but..... There was one parasite [do I recall what it was? of course not :banghead: but will try to find it again] they specifically said that DOES NOT respond to "drying out." What does the Matalla biomedia look like? Is it the same thing as their pads? If it is, that can be cleaned with a bleach solution, then rinsed in a solution of regular water dechlorinator (I clean and rinse my hummingbird feeders this way). If it was me, with what you went through, I wouldn't take any chances!
