I understand that cinder blocks are toxic to fish because they leach chemicals into the water and change the pH. Is the same true for standard red-bricks?

Thanks,

I've used scraps of concrete in my filters to help keep the pH down and soften the water. Now I'm trying kitty litter. I have also used red bricks in the bottom of my filter to hold up the bottom shelf for the media bags... The bricks were in there for about 3 years with no ill affects.

I've got red bricks in my pond raising pots up and my fish seem just fine. They've been in there for years.

I've been told that bricks are a completely different animal than blocks, since blocks are simply concrete which has set, whereas bricks are fired in an oven. I've used bricks extensively for fifty years with no problems.
