I searched and couldn't find anything. So, because the water temp is 42 degrees all my Koi are on the bottom motionless. Well, except for my one female. Her back end tends to want to float upwards and she keeps trying to bring it back down. Only way I can esplain it Lucy. Is it possible that she got air inside of her causing the back end to want to rise?

Picture with arrow pointing to her.

Can ya hep a brutha out.

are any of her scales raised? are you sure its a female? swim bladder infections can cause bloating and the inability to maintain a level "float" while the fish is 'still'. dropsy can do this as well. but with the bloating comes raised scales, like a pinecone look. i asked if your sure its a female because both conditions can cause bloating and can let you mistake a male for a female. just a thought. you might try feeding it a boiled greenpea , (squeezing the meat out from the skin)...as this can remedy some swim bladder infections.

Thanks for the reply koiguy. I'll get a closer look at the scales when I get home. Would this be cause for a quarantine?

So just feed the greenpea skin? interesting.

no not the skin..the meat inside the pea...the skin is too hard to digest even digestable at all. i would segregate the fish in a hospital tank. slowly bring up the water temp to 70*or slightly higher and feed the pea(s), only 1 or 2 peas a day for a few days. if that doesnt do it...maybe someone else can help. reference this thread...

if the scales are raised there is at least one thread on dropsy in the illness section under this one.

Checked on the koi last night when I got home and watched for a time and she/he wasn't displaying the symptoms any more. But I did have to quarentene three. One was flashing and two have white spots thinking Ick. Placed in an old bathtub (cleaned out) we had and added home depot blue bag salt.

Thanks j.w. but I think I may have over reacted. From talking with a vet Popeye is very noticeable and what my koi have nothing in comparison. Better to react than do nothing.

Nuts. Lost the three in QT. Think I may have put too much salt in. I'm bummed. They were my red white ones.
