Need to fill in garden pond in house that we have just moved into. Have emptied the pond discovered it is solid concrete all round and at the bottom. It's about 4ft deep and was intending to put in about half hardcore at the bottom with topsoil on top. Does anyone know whether we will need drainage holes at the bottom or will hard core be sufficient? Thanks Colin

That could work, it will stay wet if there is no drainage. But with the hard core it would collect there. You could plant wet loving plants if it does stay wet, i.e. the dirt.

Thanks, just thinking of options should I be unable to make holes in the base.
