Yes I think it does make sense. Of course you will want it to filter to a "finer" level than the previous filter. Then maybe add some biomaterials after that.

They are both biofilters.
John I guess you could test the water coming out of the first filter. If everything reads 0, the second filter won't do much for ya.... But it can't hurt.

This was my thought. I do not need it now but as my koi grow my system will be able to handle it with the addition bio filter.
