hello everyone

I have a well established pond, refurbished by a specialist several months ago. I left the water to settle for ages and introduced the fish on Sunday. Even though I have a waterfall, pump and UV filter, the water is so cloudy I cannot see my fish. It wasn't cloudy before the fish went in. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

My guess is that you have now introduced bio matter, i.e. fish poop, now your pond will be cycling, building up bacteria for the filter etc.

welcome and not sure what you mean by cloudy and do you have a liquid test kit .You can use quilt batting in a basket where the waterfall comes out into the pond to pick up any fine stuff

by cloudy I mean it looks like a cup of milk has got into a bowl of water. It's white and opaque. I don't have a testing kit unfortunately

hi sissy. I am not sure of the exact type of filter, my pond guy says it is a UV filter. Does that help? The pond is about 8 feet by 5 feet and about 3 feet deep. I have bought 4 medium goldfish and 6 little ones.

Yep take a plastic basket w/ holes in it of some sort and put some of that quilt batting in it and run your waterfall or a hose from your pump over that and it will filter out the small particles in your water. Clean the batting when it looks dirty and replace it back in again till you get the water to your liking.Like this:

This sounds more like dirt floating in the water. Need to add coagulator then let the pumps take care of it or vacuum. Speaking on authority because I jumped into my pond yesterday to hide some hoses under the liner and this is exactly what my pond looks like now.
