Hello Forum,
It's been awhile since I've posted anything. Even though I haven't posted I am constantly reading and watching. Alot of changes in my life in the last year. I have recently moved and had to leave my pond behind. I am a true pond lover and knew I had to have a pond. Since it's just me know, I realize I can not do the build on my own. I have contracted with a local nursery and they will do the basic installation. I will do the finishing part myself. I'm excited about this new venture and look forward to all the wonderful input I will receive here. This pond is going to be my biggest yet. I will be able to sit on my deck and enjoy it daily!!

So here I go....

My back yard was completely shaded. I had 3 large trees removed and while they removed them, I had them dig the basic outline of my pond. As you can see, we have had alot of rain here in West TN. I am constantly draining my "pond" with a sump pump trying to keep it as dry as possible. :)

My previous pond had a bog that was built after reading Addy's thread. I love how the bog kept my pond clean. This one is going to be with the Aquascape blocks. Hopefully they will be able to begin soon. I am eager to begin the transformation of my back yard.

As you can see in the photos my neighbor has a pretty unsightly shed. I would love some suggestions on trying to hide this. There is a space approximately 3 feet wide between our chain link fences. This is my property and can make any changes in that area.

How exciting! You live in my favorite state! I can't wait to watch your progress. I have my next pond all excavated and I have all the equipment purchased. Now I have to save up about a thousand dollars for rocks. What with trying to stay stocked up on groceries and other staples due to the CV, I haven't been squirreling away my grocery money. I can live vicariously through your pond build in the meantime!

Sounds great! Here is an idea regarding the neighbor's eyesore: after you get the pond up and running & landscaped invite them over for a cookout. Let them see their property from your view. That might be all it takes. If not, you can always plant some arborvitae or holly bushes etc. to obscure the shed.

where you are dealing with landscaper ask them about BLACK bamboo . bamboo gets a bum rap as one strain grows fast and out of control next to impossible to control while other strains grow slow like a tree we know and has low lying limbs hiding things like a shed.
Or build a partial fence with dead bamboo to hide the fence make it look Japanese without getting crazy

I thought about bamboo. Since there is the gap between our two fences I was unsure if the bamboo would stay in that area.

Not sure how your planning the dig but keep heron in mind if your pond has walk in like a beach ll around the heron can have a easy time walking around the pond. 24" deep from the sides keeps them from getting in the water that they are best at..

Finally progress on my pond. Covid and so much rain caused months of delay.

Day 1 and they got a lot accomplished! They are estimating 2-3 days for completion. This is my 7th pond, but first being done by someone else. Previous ponds had bogs. This will be with the aquascape wetland filter.
I’ll do a lot of the finishing touches. Wish I could have done a lot myself to save $$, too hard when it’s just you. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty!

I like the design So many build a ring inside a ring inside a ring You have the beach then the platforms work into one another instead of going all the way around. Your finish product will show the imagination in not looking like a string of pearls what are you doing for rock ?

Landscapers are done with their part of pond. Now my fun/work begins as I add more rocks and plants! I’m super happy with how it’s turning out. The rock they put in is Arkansas field stone. Will be adding lots more.
Really hoping the aquascape system is as good as they claim. it was hard to sit back and let them do the job since I’ve built several ponds previously. I really wanted to “supervise”.
