fFor your temps you will need more than 30 inches mine is just over 4 ft deep and that is for summer heat

I see most in colder temps go 4 and even 5 feet and really wish I had gone deeper .Keep the fish cooler here i the hot temps .I have a friend Glenn who lives in Flatrock Michigan and he went jut over 5 ft deep in most of his pond and a small portion he went almost 6 ft .He did not want to take any chances in the winter .

I dug mine out by hand also in clay soil and heavy and hard at times but had to get down there and worse part was really the liner and only one person is hard .I laid it out in the sun for 2 hours made it flexible but it was still heavy and think digging was easier that that thing .Better to have 2 people for it .

oh but rocks you could use for your pond .I ran into one large one when I was digging .Got out 10 buckets of small rocks and 4 big ones and one really big one o don' t envy you there and not an easy task but they sure look pretty around the pond
