I have grown cannas in my ponds. They have done great. I took the plants out of the original pots, washed off all the dirt and just tucked a few rocks around the roots and put them in the pond with the top of the pot at water level.

Most Cannas will do fine, Caladiums won't do as well, The bulbs will water log and rot, that plant will do so much better along the other edge of the pond but ours seem to do best in partial shade where the ground stays somewhat moist but not wet.
