Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. It was a experience not soon forgotten. I took several video's on somehow during downloading I guess the got erased. Can't find them on the computer if they did download. One showed the alligator that visited, another showed a small water spout on the big pond. I was really hoping to share them as well. Thought I had some neat IN THE storm video's to share and nothing. Guess I need to get a video camera to keep close by.
Sissy, Most of the water issues up here were not nearly as bad as N.O. area. under 1-2 foot in the houses were average for most that did flood in the area. Problem here was so many roads flooded in low lying areas and the water had no place to go. Good news here is most have power restored. Town is back in full motion and it seems Hammond is one of the least effected towns in a 50-60 mile radius so we are getting a much needed economic boost for our area as hotels are still all full, trucks of supplies are steady coming in to stores and distribution locations, even the restaurants are staying super busy and some that normally close are staying open longer or even 24 hours right now to help ease the strain. Lots of shoppers out at night because it's so much cooler.

But I guess the next thing is to watch out for is standing water so you don't get lots of mosquito's .I have been reading a lot on people getting sick from them more this year than ever before .I have been looking for lemon grass because it keeps bugs at bey especially mosquito's and flies and fleas .If you can get hold of it grab it ,it is a natural bug deterent

Glad to hear from you fishin4cars. Very happy to hear you made it fairly well. We here in Lafayette are actually having more rain yesterday and today than we had for the hurricane. Go figure.

It always makes me wonder how a storm like this can continue causing trouble, like the flooding, that it does for such a long time after.

Happy to hear from you Larkin and sounds like you made it through w/ not too much damage. Glad you were there to be of service to the ones in need of rescues. Was very interesting reading your story on how everything went down. That's enough drama for now tho. Lets hope things calm down down there now and all you people who had to and are still dealing w/ that storm get things dried up and things get back to normal again.

JW, It's very nice getting back to some normality. Washing clothes, picking up debris, hot cooked meals and hot showers. AHHHHHH the luxury! LOL Funny how simple things we take for granite are so cherishable in times like these. Leaves you with a refreshed feeling of appreciation for what we do have.

I am though starting to worry about Shamu, She has taken on a very faded Blah skin look. No redness or sores, no swelling, breathing fine, eating fine but her skin just doesn't look right. PH is at 7.6 (that's a .4 average drop than before the storm) GH of 60, KH 120, ammonia 0 nitrite, maybe .25ppm just a trace but it is recordable, nitrate below 10ppm, oxygen level 19, salt level 1%. I stopped feeding the day before the storm started and started back this morning. decided to use medicated bacterial food for the next few days. Considering trying to net Shamu and at least getting a skin scrap to see if we can find anything under the microscope.

Larkin, I hear some places down there are still in the thick of things regarding rising rivers. Hope they settle down soon. Glad you are enjoying life again w/ all the modern conveniences. Now at least you kinda know what to expect at your new property when these rain storms come around. Do you have to worry about the gators, snakes and such coming around now trying to find there way back to seclusion?
Darn I hope Shamu is not sick. Sounds like you are doing whatever you can to make sure she is not ill or fix whatever is wrong before it gets too bad.

Shamu is a Kumonryu, so she may just be in the process of changing colors. All the new water may have triggered it. yes we are having critters showing up.so far just non-venomus snakes, and one small gator in the back.(3' maybe) Been lots of rabbits in the front at night and the deer are being seen a little more freguent but still staying real close to the woods line.

Heck 3' sounds rather large to me for a gator! I bet his teeth are big too! We don't have anything like that around here so if one showed up I'd be worried about it eating up my pets or my fish. Couldn't it easily just crawl into your pond and eat your fish?

3' I would just get in the pond and grab it out, that small they are easy to handle. It could but I seriously doubt it would come up that close to the house. under 6' I am not bothered by them, over 6' they need to be removed from the property. BTW, they live wild in the river all the time so one could show up at any time. We been hearing in the high waters all week barking.

Glad you made it back to the modern world, Larkin. I've been working lots of overtime since the storm. The plant powerhouse went down and we've been trying to get everything restarted. I'll try to post some pics Tuesday.

Wow I see why you might be concerned as that is a big difference in the coloring on that koi in that short of time! It looks nice tho and looks like it is just turning the color of what the head was like before the storm.

So the barking is the sound from the gators?

They are calling for you jw!

That is interesting Larkin, I knew they made noise, was not aware it was a bark. Not sure I would want a nice pond with gators around lol.
