MUTANT LILY FLOWER

[Event Horizon]

This is probably not that uncommon. I split my plants in the spring and this is one of the flowers that opened. I am guessing maybe the flower started in the fall and with the splitting of the plant it morphed into a plant of its own? Anyone ever have this happen?

There's half a dozen or so hardy hybrids which can do viviparous growth from the buds

At a guess that's Col A.J. Welch which has pale yellow blooms

I've heard of that happening but mine haven't done it. Don't have the right kind I guess. Very cool!

I've heard of it occurring in tropicals, but never in hardies. Thanks for the info, Adavisus.

You are good! yes it has pale yellow blooms.

Does this usually happen with buds that started in the fall and wintered over?

I doubt it wintered over, there's no sign of prior foliage fading out and the petals have a fresh tone to them, they don't last long underwater.

Would bet the bud snuck up in spring and warmer weather perked new growth

I took the flower and tossed it in a corner, and it seem to be growing fine.
