I adopted 2 new goldfish from the feeder goldfish tank. They will be in an indoor tank till it warms up more outside, then they will go in the pond.

I liked how dark black they were and had not seen these color patterns before. The one has dark black with red peeking through on top of it's head, and some faint stripes on its side. The other has layers of orange then dark black on top of silvery white.

The black is likely to disappear. Black is a very unstable color in goldfish. Most start black and change color over time.

The last one is stunning. Looks like a koi.

They are pretty, but I wondered the same thing about the coloration. I have lots of babies that started out all black or some black and eventually turned all orange. It will be fun to see what happens!

Those are very cool-looking now, but they will probably change colors if they're just regular comets. I bought a comet a couple of years ago that was a neat silvery-black color and it very slowly turned orange. It does still have a black tail, but I wonder if that will eventually disappear, too.

The black tail will likely change, too.

Some of mine have gone from black to orange to white, some keeping some orange spots, others all white. Some skipped the orange phase and went directly to white. Some stayed orange or red.

You never know how they will end up and it can take several years before they seem to settle on a color.

Those are really cool! It will be interesting to see how their colors mutate over time. You're going to have an interesting mix there!

Updated pics:

Indeed the one with the black along it's top has a "receding" blackness, shrinking away from it's head. It has been a rapid change in the past few weeks I would not have believed it is the same fish except I had no others with this much black on top. I think it was prettier when the black mask was over its face too. It is looking more like a common goldfish with black down it's back.

The other one (spot on head is a redder orange and more distinct in person) is becoming much more orange where it was a silver white on it's sides in the tank. That one is still more unusual looking.

These are indeed the same 2 goldfish in the above pictures in the tank.

I will be amused if they are both sold orange as they grow up. But their unique coloring did make me rescue them. They are welcome to stay with me forever no matter what they look like.

The 2 little feeder goldfish that I picked for their colors are working on turning into plain orange goldfish. The one still has a more reddish orange area on its head more visible in person. Both are working on losing their black.

Think I see some white on the one. That fish will prolly stay oj and white.
