Hi, my name is Don Eastman. I'm 69 and live in eastern Arkansas right on the Mississippi River so I know what heat and humidity is all about. I've had my pond for approx. 20 years and over time (esp. at the beginning) I've planted a good number of different pond plants so, for me, I know what to use and what to stay away from.....but it's up to the individual. Right now I only plant hardy water lilies, pickerel weed, and papyrus (sometimes). This year I want to plant elephant ears (in the water). I have researched and so far it looks like I'm gonna have to get them up and growing before putting them in the water. Taro is one option (I can't remember if that's a Colocasia or Alocasia) but a corm in water like your Colocasia esculenta may be asking for trouble. I hope to find someone who has had experience growing EE around water and get some tips.......doneastman

Hi Don,

I'm growing elephant ears, I just put the bulbs in the pond, propped up on some rocks and off they go.

Good luck with your growing them this year.

Welcome Don,
I also plan to add some Taro to my pond. My pond is new, dug last summer, so I cannot offer any info.
