Anyone have any experience with this? I know I should stay away from pressure treated wood, so I'm looking for recommendations on types of wood to use and also fish safe wood stains/paint.
The pond is 20'x25'
You could use cedar but it's very expensive. I would use pressure treated. IT's not the same as it used to be and can be used in the water or around water.
Ditto above. As far as stains, check labels for low VOCs. If possible, stain the pieces away from your pond and allow them to dry completely before assembling the structure.
Pressure treated is OK around ponds? I've always been told you can't do this. I used fir, covered with 3X coats of paint. Some of that fir is starting to rot and I've been contemplating the laborious process of repair. Is there anything to look for when shopping for PT wood? Certain brands, or types of PT treatment?
I’ve use pressure treated wood over my ponds in a bridge for years w/o issue, it is the old CCA treatment, as well. Even have posts in the water holding the bridge up. Newer treatments acq and ca (2 main types available for residential use)since roughly 2003 are copper based. Make sure any piece that contacts the ground is rated for ground contact, otherwise it will rot quickly.
