Hello and welcome!

Sorry that you are having problems, but you haven’t given us any information about your pond. We can’t help without information.

How big is it?
How long has it been up and running?
What kind of fish and how many?
What kind of filtration?
Have you recently added any new fish?

Need more info on your pond and what you use for filter, pump chemicals etc. Type of fish, size, pond size. Testing your water? Do they look like injuries like stabbings or flat red rash etc?

At less than 500 gallons, I'm sorry to say that your pond is much too small for large fish such as koi & golden orfe. My guess is that you have finally hit the tipping point where your filter can no longer keep up with the amount of waste being produced. Do you have a liquid water testing kit? (not an 'all in one' test strip) If so, please do a full water testing which includes ammonia, nitrites, kh (most important ones) followed by ph, nitrates & gh (also pretty important) and post those results here so people have more info to go on in order to guide you through this. If you don't have a full test kit, get one ASAP, do the testing & then report back.

Also, there is no point is doing salt baths or throwing random treatments at the entire pond when you don't know what you're dealing with. Adding such 'additives' when the problem is (which I strongly suspect) a water quality issue will only further stress out the fish, which in turn further lowers their immune system, which just keeps things spiraling down the drain.

Sorry if I'm coming off as a big 'Debbie Downer', but water quality is THE most important thing to keep balanced in a pond (and keep in mind that clear water is not necessarily healthy for fish water) I'm so sorry you're dealing with this right now - you're right, it is heartbreaking when such things happen! Get the forum members those test results & let's sort this all out!

Pictures of your pond & entire system/ecosystem will also be a help! Less than optimal water volume aside, we don't know how deep your pond is, if you have any plants, etc... Every little detail is relevant during a crisis like this.

As fish grow they produce more waste. As I said above, what can happen is that a tipping point is hit & the filter can no longer keep up. Please post *exact* numbers for your test results. What does "very low" mean? Zero is pretty much the only acceptable number for both ammonia & nitrites (not nitrates, which is a different test number all together) Did you test kh? If that's not sufficient you might have an unstable ph which can 'crash' late in the day. Also, how many fish, what types & sizes, please? What are the dimensions of your pond? Length, width, depth? Plants? What type of aeration is provided? Please! More details are necessary. Pictures would be optimal.

LOOK AT ANY NATURAL POND ON PLANET EARTH
you might find a puddle with way too many fish but the odds are they will not live long in that small area. every pond has a much larger volume of water over percentage of fish.
When this balance gets unbalanced there is usually a catastrophic end. So it you have as the pond ages and the fish grow what was working yesterday can all of a sudden turn south
