The UV helps eliminate green water algae. If you are planning a bog down the road or even lots of plants with a low fish load, you may have no need for it at all and the associated maintenance/costs.
Very good point, appreciate that. Thank you.

Nice pond. Even if you don't put in a bog, more plants in the pond will help.

Thanks all. Looking at pond plants, just trying to work out what to purchase for the various depths I have.

One last thing, it seems the water level needs topping up. I have a water butt connected to my guttering that has been collecting rain water all winter. Is it better to use this water or water straight from the the tap. It looks like I have a de-chlorinator. I assume that is what this is?

Thanks again.

Rain water is usually better for topping off if possible, usually softer, no chlorine and does not increase mineral concentration in the pond like using tap water to replace evaporation; if you have hard water.
