I always knew fish had a better tolerance of a temperature drop than a rise. The graph proves this with a wider range for dropping than for raising temps. Of course that's not fully true at low temperatures according to the graph.

As the graph shows, it depends on the acclimation temperature (dotted line) of the fish.
Again, this graph was formulated in 1942 and is still utilized today except for the fact that since 1942 it has been learned that Goldfish are able to manufacturer their own anti-freeze thereby negating the low temperature limits that the graph shows.
