A recently (Aug. 2017) released study focused on comparing the accuracy of retail water test kits with the generally accepted standard laboratory methods. Some of the results were quite surprising.
The chart below offers the results of these comparisons-

These tests were conducted using fresh off the shelf test kits which in some cases makes the results even more interesting.

No testing of API or many other drop tests?
Not is this study. Keep in mind that the target audience for these studies are those involved in aquaculture (fish farming) and often check water quality parameters several times per day, so they are looking for quick accurate results.
This does offer a revealing look at test strips which have been an item of discussion on this Forum many times.

that's what I was thinking, we all knew strips suck anyway lol

See a neat study would be:
Ph probe (etc)
Versus
Test Kits (like API master)

Already done. The benchmark for accuracy in this study is a bench top pH meter. Staring price around $1000. This is the most accurate method.
