What is this? (Algae/Blanket weed)

Hi all,

I have something green growing all over the sides of my pond, the pump, the pipes and the plants. In fact everything underwater. Its getting longer/bigger too, so I want to get rid of it.

I know thats a brief explanation, is this blanket weed? If so, how does it form in the first place? is it a bad sign? and how do I get rid?

string algea is its name (filamentous)...it shall pass. but you can pull some of it out if it bugs you. a toilet brush usually serves this purpose pretty good.

It just seems to be getting worse though, its everywhere and its even growing off the plants, cant you add some liquid stuff and kill it off?

Don't worry about it. Control it as advised, your fish will love it and in moderation, does not pose any problems. It goes away on it's own in time.

So is it actually beneficial? does it oxiginate the water?

it feeds on excess nutrients like any plant.
