Sort of cloudy, murky, ponds still frozen.........

I groomed grasses all day, thank fully I can overload the tractor to haul them back into the woods...............6 loads full, I use a strap to sort of wrap them hang on to it until I dump the load. Ground is darn slick, just melted on the top, frozen hard below, slick like ice. My tractor dug some good ruts, but oh well they will go away.

Nice sunny day today, currently 59F. Haven't started my pump up yet cause temps are still not warm enough. It's still getting cold at night. The pond was crystal clear after the ice melted, but since we have been getting some sun it's starting to get a little cloudy. This weekend I think I'll get the filters and pump put in the pond so I will at least be ready when the time comes to start up my pond.:)

65 here today and sun/cloud mix. I worked on getting the last of the fall yard work done--the weather got too cold in November before I could do a really thorough job cleaning up the last of the leaves by the pond and alongside the house.

The koi are hungry--when I got to the edge of the pond, all three of them swam up to the surface and began opening their mouths looking for food. I'm assuming it's still too early to feed them... but if they're indicating they want to eat..... ???

It was 60 when I left wark at 6:30. I like the warm but the maple trees are budding out and the warmth is killing the sap run. I think we have total of 40 gallons of sap so my coworkers won't get syrup this year.

Too bad about the maple trees Snoozer, I sure would love to get fresh off the tree maple syrup!

Today was another lovely day and fish finally all came out from hiding this evening just as the sun was going down! The past three or four days have been just marvellous. I feel so good and been very busy with solar lights by the pond tonight.

43 and rain here this morning. It started last nigh and is supposed to continue till this afternoon. Did a large water change on the second pond yesterday. Everybody seems fine and hungry! Water temp at 48 so if this weather holds out they could get a snack soon but in the mean time there is tons of string algae.

Wow I just noticed my pond water temp is now 36, the slowly melting ice must be chilling the pond water. It was 38, went up to 39 now 36 since it started raining. Poor lil fishes

Now it dropped to 35, sure hope it does not keep going down much more.

That is getting chilly, hopefully it will warm up a bit. Going to rain here today, hopefully it will assist in the melting department.

I think it's just a sign of the melting ice creating some currents in the pond.
I've found that the temperature sensors accuracy makes the reading jump around a bit. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

At this time of year does the sun directly hit your pond, addy?

Thanks Mitch, this is my first winter with the davis pond temp probe.

Yes it does, I have full sun year round on the pond, the only shade is as the sun moves and if it is low enough, ie fall the maple tree shades it a little bit during times of the day.

Today it is cloudy and raining! I think this rain event will finally start the melt. Since I posted the pond has now gone up to 37. We are up to around 3/4 inch of rain.
The bog still has snow and ice on it,
